Messing with the Grandkids

A couple of months ago I took my cat, Little Bit, to the vet to get neutered and get his shots. When I got home I noticed on his vaccination sheet that they had tagged him as a Canine instead of Feline. Well, a few days later when my two older grandsons, 11 and 12, were playing with Little Bit, I had a mischievious idea. I told them that the vet said he was a dog and not a cat. Of course they didn't believe but I told them I had proof and showed them the sheet. I told them he was a rare breed of dog that looked like a cat. When I had them 99% sure he was a dog I told them that it was a typo and we all had a big laugh about it. I got the paper fixed and Little Bit is now a cat again

Little Bit's Trip to the Vet

Little Bit came home yesterday after spending the night at Dr. Cooley's Spa and Resort. (Actually Cooley's Veterinary Hospital) He was glad to get home but has been one ill kitty ever since. I guess I'd be ill too if my butt was sore too. Only a little after I give him his pain medication does he seem to be a happy kitty for awhile. Well, at least he got some new bling to wear around his neck.

Spooky

This story is about my cat Spooky who I was blessed to have in my life for around two years. My grandson, Blake, gave him to me as a Mother's Day present. I looked down at the tiny tuxie not realizing the bond that would form between me and this precious kitten.

From the very beginning I knew there was something special about Spooky. As he grew he would have nothing to do with anybody but me. Occasionally he would let someone else pet him but he let it be known that no one but me could hold him. And to me he was a very loving cat. He would get in my lap and reach his front legs around my neck and give me kisses. He was always rubbing his face against mine and giving me affectionate little head butts. He was always under foot, sitting in my lap, or sleeping with his front leg around my neck at night.

There was a strange incident that happened that makes me to this day believe that Spooky saved my life. I had a small bump come up on my nose that wouldn't go away but I paid it little attention. After a month or so, Spooky began to mess with it. When he'd get near my face he would try to gnaw on it. Naturally, I would stop him from it. Then there would be times I'd wake up in the night only to find him gnawing diligently on the bump. Fearing infection from his constant irritating of the bump I went to the doctor. Since it had been there for months she did a biopsy and it turned out to be cancer! Well, I had caught it in time and had it removed. After I was able to remove the bandages, Spooky inspected my nose and never bothered it again.

One of the worst days of my life was 10/13/08, the day I lost Spooky. Somehow he got out of the house and was gone by the time I realized it. I panicked! I combed the neighborhood with no luck. I put up and gave out fliers. I took out ads with pictures in the 3 local papers, offering a reward. Despite all this effort, I've never found him. I almost had a nervous breakdown right after losing him and a still cry over losing him every time I think of him. Even now.

Garfield

I know it's Wednesday but this is my first time so please bear with me. I'd like to start with someone who I was blessed to have as my friend for 19 years, Garfield. I know he looks nothing like the cartoon character but Garfield was big at the time and nothing would do for my children but to name him that. He was a wonderful cat and very intelligent. I could talk to him and it wo
uld seem as if he was listening and would offer the occasional meow in response.

He was also very cunning. One day my son, Mark, had been agitating old Gar (as we called him someitmes). Gar took it in stride but you could tell he was irritated. Well, night came and eventually Mark went to bed. Soon afterward I heard him yell. I went to see what was the matter. Well Gar had climbed into bed with him and bitten his nose! He waited until the right time to get his revenge. Smart cat!

The most touching time was when I picked him up from the vet after having him neutered. Now Gar was never a lap cat. He would sit beside you on the chair arm and watch tv but he didn't like to be held. Well, that day on the way home he crawled in my lap and rode there all the way home. Never before or since did he ever get in anyone's lap.

One unusual thing about him is that he liked salsa. Everytime I ate salsa and chips I had to put a small bowl of salsa down for him. He also had to lick every can I opened when I was cooking.

The most amazing thing about Gar was that he could actually say the word 'Mama'. Imagine my shock the first time I heard it! I freaked out! My family and friends thought it was so cool whenever he would say it. And he would always say it when he was trying to get my attention.

He was with us from 1979 to 1998 and it felt like I'd lost a child when he died. I think of him often and many times wish he was still here. But I have many fond memories of my good and close friend that make me smile and sometimes laugh when I think of the time he was in my life. I miss him very much.
